I was so excited to try out the Zumba Exhilarate System; boy, was I in for a surprise? For those of you who have lived under a rock for the past few years, Zumba is the latest and greatest fitness/dance craze that has hit this country. Combine Latino dance moves with lots of cardio and hip swivels, and you have Zumba! The Zumba Exhilarate system is a little different than others, though. The Exhilarate package is a body-shaping system with step-by-step DVDs to guide your weight loss/body transformation journey.
Included in the package are 5 DVD’s which include:
- 1. Step by Step-A basic guide to break down the steps
- 2. Activate-A 45 minute, easy-to-follow class to get you started
- 3. Exhilarate-The original full-length fitness-party experience
- 4. Ripped-body sculpting featuring the Zumba toning program
- 5. Rush-The exhilarating 20-minute workout
In addition to the DVDs, you get the Zumba toning sticks and the instructional program guide. The program guide has a lot of good information, including training tips and techniques, a weekly workout planner, a rate of perceived exertion chart, total body stretch, and the 10-day accelerated fat loss program.
Overall, it is a great program, but not for me. The older I get, the more I find it is to try to lose weight. I have tried for several years but made a concentrated effort this year to cut back and try to eat right. I have also tried many a diet plan with some luck, but not what I hoped for. While I have put off taking a Zumba class for fear of not having a single clue on how to make the moves, I thought the DVD would be great to start out. As I suspected, I was clumsy and had difficulty adjusting to the rhythm and fast pace. As a 43-year-old, working mother of 4, I really do not have the time to put in a full 60-minute workout 4+ days a week. I CAN see myself doing the RUSH DVD (20-minute workout) occasionally to mix up my workouts. Maybe with more practice, I can learn a few moves!
