3/2016: This company is no longer in business, please check out out other phone case reviews.
Phone cases and wood skins can differ from each other in numerous ways. This is because companies each try to come up with new patterns or designs that appeal to large amounts of people.
Piel seems to have succeeded in finding something unique that will capture attention. They have created skins made out of five different materials: Teak, Maple, Bamboo, Walnut, and Cedar. After you have chosen which natural material you would like for the skin, you then have your choice of various designs or patterns you would like to have etched into the skin.
Some of these designs include Animus, Flash ink, Mokuzai (my personal favorite), patterns, etc. None are typical designs that you could find in just any store, but they have such a simple yet intricate and different feel to them, that you can’t help but just be drawn in. I received the Yin Yang in Walnut and Eureka in the lighter Bamboo color.
A skin, however, does not protect the phone from damage, so it may not be recommended for those who are accident-prone. Also, these skins may not appeal to everyone. For example, teenagers tend to favor brighter flashier patterns, and the Piel skins are simpler. However, my overall take on this product is a positive one.

I really like the Kanagawa in Bamboo. The scales are quite cool looking, too.
