I received “The World’s Tallest Toy” Superstructs building set, one of the Limited Edition Sets, for my 7-year-old son. Superstructs sets range from starter building rod and connector sets to ‘themed’ products that merge these building elements with popular settings to create solid buildings, ships, vehicles, and characters for pretend and fantasy play.
The box said 4+ so I figured he could easily build all of the structures. All the pieces came in one big bag, but since the different pieces were different colors, it was easy for him to separate them all. We noticed right away that we were missing all of one type of small connector piece. There were supposed to be 16 of them! There was also another larger connector piece missing too. This was disappointing because we had to go through the instruction book looking for a structure that didn’t include either piece; thankfully, there was one. I did contact the company, and they sent us the missing pieces within four days, not so bad!
Once we started building, the instruction book was fantastic, a very easy read. My son was able to understand each step and follow them independently. However, the pieces were really difficult for him to get together. The first few steps were easy, but as the structure got bigger and taller, it was hard to get the pieces as firmly together as necessary, so they would not fall over. The pieces kept popping apart and needed more than just two hands to keep them together. I was hoping my son could build on his own with the Superstructs, but I was constantly needed to assist.
Once our windmill was complete, it was cool, sturdy, and fun to play with. It only took my son and me about 15 minutes to put the whole thing together. These pieces seem to be of good quality, and the structures are sturdy once they are finally together. I think that my son is going to have a lot of fun being creative and making his own structures with his Superstructs. The pieces came in a sturdy cardboard box that will make them easy to store, which is really nice. Superstructs would be a good gift for a child who enjoys building and being creative!
The World’s Tallest Toy Set will be available after September 20, 2014, and will retail for $54.99. The plastic is BPA-free, and everything is top-shelf dishwasher safe. The EVA is a closed-cell foam which makes it impervious to fluids!
