McCain’s Smiles, or smiley fries, as my son calls them, are a staple in this house. At one point, they were only available in one store around me, which happened to be at a store I normally do not shop. So I had to make a special trip every time we ran out. If you have never tried the smiles, they have mashed potatoes on the inside and crispy outside. It’s yummy. My little one’s favorite meal is chicken fingers and smiley fries. Almost every day when he came home from Kindergarten, this would be his meal of choice. This year, being a big first grader, he doesn’t get to eat them quite as much but loves it when I have them ready and waiting when he comes home from school.
The McCain Sweet Potato Fries are available in Crinkle Cut, Sweet & Spicy, and Cross Trax Sweet Potato Fries. I decided to go with the Cross Trax since I am the only one in the family who likes sweet potatoes, and I don’t normally purchase them. While the flavor tasted great, they didn’t crisp up. They stayed on the softer side, which I did not care for.
Each McCain product is made from real potatoes and simple ingredients. Another product that I liked was Purely Potatoes. They are 100% real potatoes, quick and easy to make. They are great to keep on hand for a last-minute side dish.
