Have you heard about Kellogg’s Share Your Breakfast Initiative yet? This great program helps give breakfast to children in need. Celebrity dad and actor Taye Diggs has partnered with Kellogg’s to share breakfast with children in need for a third straight year. Kellogg’s Share Breakfast program has a goal of helping share 1 million breakfasts with kids who need them. When you Share, Tweet, Pin, or Watch, Kellogg’s will share breakfast with a child in need. See below for how you can join the Share Breakfast Movement.
You always hear that breakfast is the most important meal of the day…and I believe it. Kids especially need that boost that breakfast can provide. I decided to talk to my friend Amy, who happens to be a dietitian. Here is her take on breakfast:
Breakfast: Truly the Most Important Meal of the Day
Chances are, we’ve all heard it. Personally, it was one of my parents’ favorites: “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” However, unlike “If you keep making that face, it will freeze that way,” this timeless piece of parental wisdom is actually true. Breakfast is an important meal—especially for children—for a number of reasons.
People who eat breakfast regularly tend to eat healthier overall compared to those who do not. People, including children, who eat breakfast every day are also more likely to be successful in controlling their body weight and more likely to participate in physical activity. Children who eat breakfast generally do better in school and have better test scores- they are more focused, have longer attention spans, and have fewer absences from school than their classmates who miss the morning meal. And the list of breakfast benefits really goes on and on… the take-home message here is that breakfast is important and shouldn’t be skipped!
So, whether you eat at home, in the car, at the office or at school be sure everyone in your family eats a nutritious breakfast every day.

We eat a lot of cereal around here, and not only for breakfast. Six of the nine boxes we have happened to be Kellogg’s! According to the American Dietetic Association, children who eat breakfast perform better in the classroom and on the playground, with better concentration, problem-solving skills, and eye-hand coordination. I always make breakfast for the kiddos before school, whether it be something hot or cold. And even when they refuse to eat, I make them drink a glass of milk.
