BB Torch 9800 Strength Case
Summary: Overall, a stylish and protective case for the newest Blackberry smartphone. Easy to put on and offers great coverage from daily use mishaps. Some users may not care for the hard outer shell.
Blackberry released the slider version recently and my dear husband surprised me for Christmas.
So, I needed a case right away. With the phone being tossed in my purse, bouncing around the car and kitchen counters it’s just a matter of when it will collect scratches and nicks.
I can imagine that while slider phones are a cool change for the user, they must drive case designers mad. Two pieces to protect while not detracting from the phone’s use.
OtterBox got it right. The body of the phone is covered by a white, rubber-like inner sleeve. The intent is certainly to provide some level of shock absorption should you drop your handset. Over this inner sleeve snaps a hard shell case in Breast Cancer pink. The two combined undoubtedly will offer a high level of protection from drops and bumps. And they add just a small amount of thickness to the overall dimensions of the phone. I can still slip it in my back pocket with ease. Quick access to charger port and headphone plug remain. All buttons, side, and top work very well.
The final piece is the Breast Cancer pink bezel that snaps snugly onto the slider screen. As the picture notes, it’s a super snug fit, looks great and doesn’t effect slider use at all. In fact, it actually it just a little easier to open one handed as the bezel adds just enough of a surface for your thumb to rest on.
The whole setup just works. My only knock is that the outer shell, both the body and the slider, is made of a fairly hard plastic. It will take a little getting used to. Some of you will take to it right away. To each his own.
The retail pack includes the obligatory clear plastic screen protection cover. I never use them. Most high-end smartphones have toughened glass or come from the factory with anti-scratch protection. But, it’s there just the same if you want to add it.
My case is the Avon Breast Cancer Pink and white versions. Other, more traditional colors are available.
