Update May 2017: The Mibblio Music Storybook App is no longer available. Below are several other interactive music apps.
Mibblio: Music Storybook By Mibblio
This new app has it all, music, interactive play and a story. When you start the app, you can scroll through the to see the each of the nine stories:
- Wheels on the Bus
- On Top of Spaghetti
- Old MacDonald
- Mashed Potato Monster Gang
- Monkey Jamboree
- Millie and Her Curling, Whirling Hair
- Sunny Side Up
- Superhero Vacation
- Wibblesmacks
There is also a preview mode of each story that walks you through a brief synopsis. We went through all the previews and my son choose Old MacDonald. There were only two illustrations on the other stories, I didn’t care for, but the rest of them had bright bold colors and they all looked really cute!
Once you choose a story, the fun begins. There is an illustrated story that kids can read or have the words sung to them. There are yellow musical instruments on the left side that when clicked you can layer what you would like to hear in the background. Want to listed to just drums or piano, you can! Then you can add the instruments one by one or individually to hear them.
The piano keyboard on the bottom can also play various instruments, there are 8 located right above the keyboard. On the right side is a Ukelele with three strings for strumming. And finally above that are three more fun instruments to tap along with.
One downside is that you can’t scroll through to a certain page of the story, you need to listen to each page.
My thoughts: My five year old liked paying this story and enjoyed playing and changing all the sounds the instruments had to offer. This app is recommended for kids 3-8. To me, eight years old might be stretching it. Most of the stories seemed to be geared for younger children.
