The Gingerbread Construction Co. all started as a hobby in 1981. Owners, John and Janet D’Orsi, made gingerbread houses and cookies for local craft shows. As word spread on how delicious they were, they knew they had to open a shop. So in 1987 they opened The Gingerbread Construction Co. in Winchester, Massachusetts and next came the muffin line and a gourmet cookie line. Then as as they say the rest is history.
What a great name for a company that bakes muffins! And these are pretty tasty muffins! My wife and I sampled carrot, gingerbread and pumpkin. The muffins are refrigerated and come in one pound tins with clear plastic lid. Like many similar products, some of the frosting can stick to the plastic lids, but it’s not a big deal.
The carrot cake was very good: moist but firm, with plenty of raisins and an authentic carrot flavor, but not over powering. There was a really good mix of spices and just the right sweetness. The cream cheese frosting was thick, gooey and very nice, just as carrot cake frosting should be.
Next we sampled the gingerbread which has a V shaped line of thick, rich frosting running through the muffin; once again we found it to be moist, firm, very flavorful and the frosting inside the V line was really good and a nice touch.
Finally, but certainly not least, we tasted the pumpkin muffin loaf: it was very rich in flavor, moist and firm and iced with a soft orange, cream cheese style frosting which was thick and gooey good.
These muffin loafs are excellent choices for desert or an anytime snack with coffee, tea or a cold glass of milk. They are as good as or better than a product you can prepare from a box, are fairly priced and big time savers.
We give two thumbs up for these delicious muffins!
We also received 2 Gingerbread Cookies. The only downside with the cookies is that they are made in a facility with peanuts, so my grandson was unable to enjoy. But my other two grandsons, took full advantage of being the “cookie testers”. Normally, they do not eat gingerbread but they gave these a try and said that they tasted pretty good. They didn’t have an overpowering ginger flavor. They were chewy on the inside and crisp outside, just the way a cookie should be! Review by Larry G.
