National Nail Polish Day is celebrated on June 1 every year. Started in 2017 by nail polish brand Essie, National Nail Polish Day is all about nail polishes, and the hundreds of shades that are available. “Since we see so much brand love and hundreds of social posts on a daily basis, we thought it would be exciting to organize a national holiday for everyone to celebrate and declare their #essielove,” explained Ikdeep Singh, president of Essie, Maybelline, and Garnier.

Did you know?

There was only 1 bottle of the world’s most expensive nail polish that was produced by Los Angeles-based luxury jewelry brand Azature. The nail polish consisted of 267 carats of black diamonds and was priced at $250,000.
Jeff Pink, the American makeup artist and founder of Orly, needed a manicure that wouldn’t compete with multiple costume changes. So according to Orly, in 1975, he created the versatile French manicure.
in 1983, Essie garnered one of the first celebrity endorsements of a nail polish brand. The late Joan Rivers mentioned her nail color of choice, Essie’s “Jelly Apple,” on air and soon after, Essie was a household name.
In 1911, Northam Warren created a cuticle remover called Cutex. He has since offered more nail products, including the first nail polish, which is actually a clear nail lacquer. His company introduced it in 1916 and referred to it as a Nail Enamel or Nail Polish. They later added rose-tinted liquid nail polish to their collection and created more colors in the years to come.
French manicurist Michelle Manard adapted the formula to create opaque nail polish. Her employer, Charles Revson, knew a good thing when he saw it, so he and his brother Joseph launched a new company, Revlon, with the first colored nail enamel in 1932.
