The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore by William Joyce
This interactive story is inspired by the Academy Award-winning short film by the same title. Morris LOVED books, he would write in a book of his own every day. Until one day, the wind blew everything about, even the words in his book. And this is where Morris’ journey begins.
The IMAG-N-O-TRON App brought the book to life! I don’t know how they did it but when you hold your device over the page of the book, things start to happen. You can repair books, tumble through a storm, learn the piano, and even get “lost in a book,” flying through a magical world of words. There are icons on the app like Look Up or Look Around and when that happens you take the device off the page and around your room. My five-year-old loved it! He kept looking at the iPhone and the book. In the app, Morris is sleeping with is eyes closed but in the book they are open, my son just kept looking back and forth between the two. He couldn’t figure out how that happened!
After reading the book, I had a feeling that I had seen similar illustrations before. Only after researching William Joyce, did I realize that he also wrote and illustrated over fifty children’s books including George Shrinks and Rolie Polie Olie. My oldest son loved George Shrinks when he was younger, I can’t tell you how many episodes we watched and books we read together. I love the vintage feel and warm feeling that they bring. This app and book are a wonderful combination.:
