Mini Me has been bugging to buy her a tutu for about 6 months now. I’m not really sure why I never bought her one. Maybe because they are quite expensive, possibly because she doesn’t take ballet or isn’t a girly girl. Either way – she ended up with one simply because I wanted to make one because – well – they are REALLY cute!
What you’ll need:
- Two, Three or Four colors of Tulle
- Ribbon
- Tape Measure
- Scissors
Here’s how simple this is:
1. Measure your princess’s belly. Being that you are using a ribbon vs. elastic to make you tutu, be sure to cut the ribbon 4-5 inches longer. Place a knot 2-2 1/2 inches on each side so that you know where to stop with the tulle. The remaining 4-5 inches will allow you to tie a nice bow on your little ballerina and if you make 5″-7″ she can grow into it!
2. Place your Elastic/Ribbon around an object (I used a vase). This will help speed the process along.
3. Next, cut your tulle! You will need to double up on the length. Let’s say you want the tutu to be 12″ long, cut it 24″ long. If I remember correctly this is the length I used for Mini Me’s {yeah, it’s been about 3 months!}. I started out with a pile of 12 of each color. This speeded up the process a little bit and made sure I had the same pattern!
Now the fun part, adding the tulle!
4. With a piece of tulle length wise, fold it in half. Slip under the ribbon and create a slip knot:
5. Continue your color, or pattern, until the tutu is full and you’ve met your knots on both sides:
6. TADA! You’ve got a beautiful tutu that any girl will be proud to wear!
