I received a bottle of the Castilla-La Mancha’s Artesones Manchuela Bobal from Virgen De Las Nieves Cenziate in Spain. As I get older, I am enjoying the taste of wine more and more. My husband and I both like to try new and different wines, and with the opening of Jungle Jim’s International Market in our area we sure have tried quite a few bottles! They offer over 12,000 different wines from around the world…so needless to say we are never at a loss for wine! I am by no means a wine connoisseur, but I know what I like.
The Cenziate Bobal did seem to hit me faster than some of the other wines that I drink, it is 13% alcohol. With the first taste, I noticed how dry it was. It has a deep, robust flavor. My husband said that he really liked it. This is not your average table wine. It would pair well with beef and of course great company! I enjoyed this with an Italian meal we prepared and it accompanied the meal well. A bottle runs around $15.
La Mancha is also the largest wine region in the world with around 300,000 hectares of vineyards within its area of production, of which only about 165,000 are able to produce wines with “designation of origin”, it is one of the most welcomed vineyards across Europe with DO. The Designation of origin (DO) not only corresponds to the geographical location and information about the wine, but it is essentially a guarantee that the wine has been subjected to multiple security checks to ensure its quality. The wine I received comes from the Creanza
Tasking Notes from Castilla-La Mancha:
- AGING: 6 months
- PRODUCTION: Very long soaking to better extract colour, aroma and noble tannins that provide a good amount of polifenols. After that, aged in French and American oak casks.
- TASTING NOTES: Intense deep-red cherry-coloured. Very intense aromas of ripe red fruit as mulberry and raspberry. A very complex wine reminding of liquorice, coffee, vanilla and a very well integrated hint of wood. On the palate, medium bodied with good acidity, red fruits and a hint of chocolate.
- FOOD PAIRING: Red, baked and spiced meats as entrecot or steak. Big game hunting and very intense cheeses.

Wow! So many wines to think about, see, and taste. I enjoy a deep red…nothing too dry but hints of fruit. Sounds like a winner and a great accompaniment to grilled ribeye or lasagna. Friday is National Lasagna Day I think. Enjoy!
