A cookbook review by Larry Garascia
A new year and a new cookbook to review, one of the hundreds which will be published this year in the USA. ‘5 Ingredient Fix’ is written by Claire Robinson, host of a program of the same name on ‘Food Network’. And you know what; this is a pretty good cookbook.
A cookbook should make you want to get out in the kitchen and rattle pots and pans; I’ve been doing that for more than 40-years, as well as collecting cookbooks. I really like cookbooks and I think it’s a challenge to put a good one together.
5 Ingredient Fix’ is a hardback cookbook and features excellent color photographs of many of the recipes.
Any good cook or chef will tell you that simple is not only easy, it produces better results when it comes to recipes. Cooking is all about being prepared and having your ingredients laid out and ready in the order you’ll use them and this cookbook makes the recipes fun, easy and the results are delicious.
I zoomed in on Asian Beef Roll-Ups and found the recipe easy to follow and the end production tasty and satisfying. Then I went on to polenta fries with roasted tomato sauce. I love polenta and began eating it as a child when my Italian mother would prepare it on a regular basis. The recipe is very good and easy; the only thing I would change is that when I make polenta I always use chicken stock instead of water. Nonetheless, the recipe was easy to make. The result is very, very good and I encourage you to try it as soon as possible. There’s a great photo accompanying the recipe too. Sometimes looking at a photo after reading the recipe helps give you an understanding of what to aim for.
5 Ingredient Fix’ is a serious cookbook for the serious cook. The recipe for Claire’s Carbonara is really excellent, easy and quick to prepare and the results amazingly satisfying.
I will definitely add this cookbook to my collection and select other recipes from it to try. It’s really a very engaging cookbook.
‘5 Ingredient Fix’ can be found at major booksellers like Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Check out the complete list of retailers at The Hachette Book Group.
