SUPER WHY Alpha Boost! By PBS KIDS
SUPER WHY is a preschool series on PBS Kids, designed to help kids ages 3 to 6 with the critical skills that they need to learn to read as recommended by the National Reading Panel.
To start off, in Alpha Boost, your child gets to pick out and play as Super Why, Princess Presto, Wonder Red, or the Alpha Pig character. Then you get to choose which themed party that you would like to play: Birthday, Beach, Halloween, Love, or Winter.
You get to use your device to catch the falling balloons and letters by tilting to the right or left, which increases in speed as you progress. Once you catch all the letters in the mystery word, the word pops up on the screen to review each letter. There are over 120 party-themed words within the parties. “Alpha Boost!” is supposed to help reinforce letter recognition and word formation.
While my five-year-old knows all his letters he hasn’t started reading yet. While he enjoyed catching the falling items, I think that this is more of a game than a true learning app.
