Immortal Voyage by C.G. Powell
Before the time of the great pyramids, there was a place like none other, a city of glass and metal rising from the depths of the ocean. Shrouded in mist, the island of Hy-Brasil and its capital, Atlantis, lay hidden from the rest of the world by its people, a race of long-lived, interstellar nomads.
What secrets would you keep to save your kingdom? On the Queen’s deathbed, the sonless King Rowe is forced into a promise to allow his five daughters to marry for love. A promise he wished he had never made and one he would have to break to save the kingdom.
The youngest of five daughters, Jael, spent most of her time at her father’s side learning to run a kingdom. Believed to be the King’s favorite, Jael is shocked when he betroths her to a longtime friend of his, Prince Sarik of Hy-Brasil. Soon, she will learn that the world is full of secrets, and one of them is her very own birth. Will the secret that bonds her to Sarik be the ultimate downfall of a kingdom?
Welcome to the Immortal Book Tour. Here is an excerpt from the book:
It was the morning of the winter solstice and the great hall was abuzz with excitement. Holly and juniper boughs draped across the wall with bouquets of dried lavender hanging between them. Breads, dried fruit, and cheeses sat on every table awaiting the festivities of the evening. In their childhood room, Jael and Lenni helped Halis into her gown while Fe and Salima chatted by the hearth.
Jael raised her brow at Halis being unusually quiet. “Are you okay?”
Halis inhaled a ragged breath then let it out. “I’m a little nervous,” she replied before she paced like a caged animal. “Why am I nervous? I love Edric; he makes me happy. I shouldn’t be nervous. But what if he takes me away from my home or turns into an ogre like Dugun? What am I getting myself into?” Her voice became shrill as she gazed at Fe. She placed her hands over her chest as if to quell the pain that was building from her rapid breath. Fe rushed to over to Halis and put her arm around her waist.
“Lenni, loosen her dress laces,” Fe commanded. She walked Halis over to the window and threw open one of the shutters as Lenni shuffled behind them and pulled the strings on the back of Halis’ gown.
“Take a deep breath. Edric is a kind man and would never treat you as Dugun treats Wren.” Fe looked back at Jael who was still standing in the middle of the room a bit miffed by the whole event. “Please fetch Halis a cup of wine.” Fe snapped her fingers at Jael to get her attention.
Jael nodded and dashed out the room.
Halis hung her head outside the window and continued to hyperventilate. Her face was as white as the snow that was sticking to her hair as it fell. “Make that the whole pitcher,” Fe shouted, hoping that Jael would hear her down the hallway.
Salima put her hand on Halis’ shoulder and pulled her out of the window. Her eyes turned cat like as she looked at Halis. “Everything is going to be okay, little one.”
The lines of panic on Halis’ face relaxed as Salima and Fe walked her to the bed and sat her down, just as Jael returned with a pitcher and cup.
Two glasses of wine later, the pink returned to Halis’ face. She sat on the corner of the bed, shoulders slumped and eyes closed, with one last calming breath she opened her eyes and stood. “I’ve kept poor Edric waiting long enough.”
Halis’ eyes lit up as she entered the great hall. Edric sat next to her father on the dais, his leg shaking up and down as he tapped on his knee in rhythm. His breath left him as he stood and gazed at Halis smiling at him from the doorway before she joined him on the dais.
