A few weeks ago, we took the kids to a Globetrotters Game at US Bank Arena. This was the first time any of us have ever been to a Globetrotters game so we didn’t know what to expect.
The idea behind the Globetrotters is that they are a team of all-stars that play against another team for the championship. It’s a show and not an actual game, really more of an exhibition, so if you see them twice you would see the same show.
Harlem Globetrotters at US Bank Arena December 29, 2012
Let me start off by saying that this is a VERY funny show. Big Easy, one of the Globetrotters is the MC of the game, and he was so fun to watch. He is wearing a mic along with one of the refs, who is Big Easy’s foil. They are at each other throughout the game and that creates lots of laughs.
You will see lots of good basketball dunks, maneuvers and trick passes. If you have kids under 13 or 14 they will enjoy the basketball moves. Older kids may not be as into it or maybe expecting a genuine game. Globie, the mascot came out 15 minutes before the show and during halftime to get the crowd all riled up. My five-year-old thought his antics were so funny.
This show was the first in the “You Write The Rules” World Tour. This is where the audience participation comes in. You get to vote on several different rules that they then incorporate into the game each quarter. You get to choose from double points, a 4 point shot, the penalty box, 6 on 5 and 2 ball basket, where they play with two balls.
Overall, this was a great show. All my boys enjoyed watching the trick moves and shenanigans that went on. I would definitely take them back to see it again.
