This year marks the 50th anniversary of Gallo’s Hearty Burgundy, America’s first truly iconic Red Blend. To celebrate the Golden Anniversary of Hearty Burgundy, Gallo Family Vineyards has produced a limited edition bottle that pays homage to the original flavor profile that first brought Americans into wine in the 1960’s and 70’s. In addition to having a 60’s wine style, the limited edition bottle will feature a special gold label, as a nod to the wine’s “golden anniversary” and bear a 50th-anniversary seal.
Let me start off by saying that I am in by no means a wine connoisseur. For my husband and I, there are two kinds of wine, the wine we like and the wine we do not. Lately, I have been on a sweet red wine kick. I like to try different sweet reds but I keep coming back to my usual. Then I had the opportunity to review a Hearty Burgundy from the Gallo Family Vineyards. While it is not a sweet red, I love to give new wines a try.
This medium bodied dry Hearty Burgundy offers a mouth-watering richness through a blend of dark berry and red plum flavors with subtle hints of oak. Hearty Burgundy’s well-balanced fruit and subtle hints of oak pair well with the bold and layered flavors of chili, Italian meat sauce, and grilled sausages. We had a friend over for the first grill of the season in which we prepared steaks with melted blue cheese, steak fries, and green beans. To be honest, this is now one of my new go-to’s! I really enjoyed the flavor and it went nicely with our meal. Everyone else agreed too! It wasn’t too dry or overpowering. The flavor and scent of plum stood out the most to me. The hearty burgundy is only available in a 1.5L which is nice for entertaining…or a really bad day!

I may actually have to try this. What are your other go tos? My personal favorite is Fetzer anything… Their gewürztraminer is amazing!

I enjoyed hearing about the history behind Gallp. I didn’t know they were only 50 years old. I’m not a wine drinker(or any kind of drinker), so I will just say I’m glad you all enjoyed this wine and Happy Birthday Gallo. Also, I loved the decorative bottle image.

Gallo Hearty Burgundy sounds fabulous. I like my burgundy to be at room temperature and have a nice dark berry flavor and this sounds like it would be a fine wine to try.
