Did you know that today is National Cheeseburger Day?
No ones quite knows who invented the cheeseburger, but they are a few theories floating around. It is said that the cheeseburger was created between 1924 and 1926 by a chef named Lionel Sternberger. When he was just 16, he was working as a fry cook at his father’s Pasadena, California sandwich shop, “The Rite Spot,” and “experimentally dropped a slab of American cheese on a sizzling hamburger.”
Another version of the story includes a homeless man who was dining at Sternberger’s restaurant in Pasadena, California, and suggested the addition of a slice of cheese to his hamburger order. Sternberger complied, eventually added it to his menu.
