AppGear has a new line of app toys to go along with their augmented reality games. Augmented reality (AR) is a live view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video or graphics. I was sent two of the toys to review: Foam Fighters Pacific and ZombieBurbz Avenue.
Foam Fighters Pacific, is a cool WWII game that takes you through battles over the Pacific, Britain or Europe. My oldest who is 12 was able to get this set up and he began playing it right away. Me on the other hand, this took me a while to figure it out. You have to scan the wing of the plane so the game knows which plane you will be fighting as. Each plane unlocks a different campaign based on historical battles that you can play as either Axis or Allied forces. Then you attach the plane to the suction cup holder and you have to line it up with the outline of the plane on the screen. To move the plane you just need to tilt your device to the left or right. My son said that the battles were “cool” and he enjoyed playing this game. You can also battle up to 8 of your friends in Skirmish mode over local Wi-Fi.
The Foam Fighters AppGear Set contains 2 fighter planes, a stand to display them and a suction cup arm for mounting onto your device. The game is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and also Android. The app game itself if a FREE download and the Foam Fighters plane set runs $9.99.
ZombieBurbz Avenue is fourth in the ZombieBurbz Series. This set comes with 3 collectible zombies and 1 deluxe figure. Each deluxe zombie figure unlocks its own unique storyline and missions. There is only 1 deluxe zombie figure per pack and the other figures are just to play with. I do wish that all the zombies were able to unlock the game instead of just the one. Again the game is FREE and the Zombie set runs 9.99. I put this game on the iPad as it has a little figure that you place on the screen and need to hold to set off explosive burps and sounds. I made it through a few levels fighting off the mobs. The more points you get by fending off the attackers, the more weapons you can purchase to help in the process.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
