Gelaskin Review

UPDATE 5/2016: GelaSkins is now Nuvango

At Gelaskins, you can find all types of skins for your gadgets. From fresh and funky to classics, you can even create your own designs. A portion of each skin, case or print sold goes directly to the creator, helping to support and promote independent artists everywhere.

I love that you are able to customize your devices with…well whatever your imagination can come up with. My son’s imagination came up with Star Wars!

My son had to have a Star Wars Storm Trooper which I was able to create for him. The “Create Your Own” Process was pretty easy too, although the file did have to be in PNG, JPG or GIF so you might have to convert your image. Once uploaded you can lay it out to see what it would look like. I had to find several images before I could find a file size that was large enough for it to fit. If the image isn’t large enough the program will tell you. The Star Wars cover is much too thin than I care for but it does a great job at preventing scratches. If he takes it out of the house, he is able to place a cover over the skin to give it the protection it needs if dropped.

Gelaskins offers skins for all your electrical devices like readers, gaming, phones, laptops, MP3 and more. I wasn’t too sure about having a skin as I didn’t think it would provide the protection I needed. I was able to have three skins made, 1 for my Mac Laptop, 1 for iPod Touch and 1 for an iPod. As you can see, the skin is a pretty thin laminated vinyl decal but the material that is is made from is strong and able to be repositioned over and over. Trust me, I couldn’t get the one from my laptop on straight so I must have tried a dozen times! The skins are made from a patented 3M material and provide protection against scratches and everyday wear-and-tear. I didn’t have any problems with bubbles either, although there were some which were easy to smooth out. This is nothing like the clear protectors that come with a case or phone to lay on top of your phone for “protection”. I have never been able to get one of those on!

The skins provide great protection against scratches, and will give your device some flair, but really doesn’t do much against dropping if you are concerned about that. I love the way my laptop looks, in a house full of boys a little pink is just what I need.

I want a cute skin for my phone. I need something that protects against dropping too, though. My 5 year old and 18 month old think my phone is theirs, so they try me a lot! Wonder if I can put a skin on the back of a phone case?
