I recently discovered Brentwood Home over the holidays when I was asked to try out 2 of their pillows: the Helena Latex Filled and Carmel Molded Pillows. Just looking at their site gives me the feeling of being surrounded by coziness and a sense of calm. Keep reading for ten ways to get a better night’s sleep!

About Brentwood Home

For over 30 years, Brentwood Home has been making mattresses and home essentials with a team of local artisans and fabricators in Los Angeles. From the beginning, they’ve created products using healthy and ethically-sourced materials, all inspired by their love for the natural world and their home in California.

Brentwood Home Pillows

The Helena

This pillow is a favorite among Brentwood’s customers, and now I know why! It is filled with a combination of 100% natural latex ribbons and silky-smooth kapok fibers, it is both fluffy yet supportive. The Helena pillow is great for those who sleep in multiple positions as the latex responds to your movements. The 100% organic cotton cover is grown without pesticides and features a zipped opening so you can remove or add more filling.

I do agree with the masses on this one, it is comfortable, squishy and gives my head just the right amount of support.

Helena Pillow Filling

The Carmel

Made with 100% natural latex, the Carmel pillow is ideal for those in need of a firm, supportive foundation through the night. It is molded to give your neck and head support and it never requires fluffing. This pillow is also made from 100% organic cotton and natural latex.

To be honest, I have never been a big fan of molded pillows. My kids, on the other hand, love them. When you lay on the pillow it forms around your head, but as soon as your head lifts off, it springs back to its natural form.

Carmel Pillow Carmel Pillow

The pillows arrived rolled up, 2 to a box. They came compressed so when you removed them from the plastic they opened up. They also came sealed in another plastic bag. Once opened though they filled up and quickly took shape. All products are made to order when you make a purchase. As you can see this was made on November 15 and I received it about a week later!

Tips For a Better Nights Sleep

10 Tips to a Better Nights Sleep

  1. Unplug from electronics and TV at least 2 hours before bed; the lights are not good for your eyes plus the light messes with your circadian rhythm.
  2. Wind down; practice a bedtime ritual like reading or yoga.
  3. Avoid caffeine and hidden sources of caffeine, like chocolate.
  4. Try not to nap during the day but if you must make it a power nap of 20 minutes of less.
  5. Stick to a routine; go to bed and wake around the same time, even on weekends!
  6. Don’t eat heavy foods before bed it upsets your digestive system.
  7. White noise can help you fall asleep, try a fan or white noise app.
  8. Set the room to the right temperature; between 68°-70° is ideal.
  9. Upgrade your bedding; is it time for a new mattress? Do you have the right pillow, with so many types available investigate what would work best for you? Have you thought about bamboo sheets to help keep you cool?
  10. My tip; avoid looking at the clock when you wake or have to get up in the night. This one is psychological!

I’ve noticed that when I wake up early in the morning and work out, don’t take a nap and take a nice detox bath about 2 hours before I go to sleep I have the best sleep ever. Also, I like to read a motivational book right before bed. That helps too.

I never get in my bed until it’s time to sleep. And no tv puts me to sleep faster than trying to fall asleep watching something.

I have a terrible time getting to sleep and staying asleep. My neck constantly hurts. I buy pillow after pillow. Even tried ‘My Pillow’ and still no help. Would love to try this one.

My best tip (for me, anyway) is not to drink too much after 9PM. Otherwise, I’m back and forth to the rest room all night! Also, I try to go over the day around 7PM, get out all my worries, etc, so I don’t think about them in bed.

In order to get a good nights sleep I recommend: Try to go to bed at an established time.
Have a pretty set routine. An hour before bedtime start shutting things down. Keep it quiet and dark. Relax.

Good restful sleep varies for everyone, my tips are using magnesium that we are so deficient off, herbal teas, essential oils if needed, of course give yourself a brake form electronics, and no heavy meals before bed.

First of all, I turn down the temperature to sleep in a cool room. Then I read a good book to keep my mind off of daily stresses and this usually puts me right to sleep! I have arthritis in my shoulders that bother me at night so have been looking for a better “side sleeper” pillow to help with this.

I wish I had good tips for a good night’s sleep. Since perimenopause kicked in, my sleep patterns are completely off-kilter. I would love to have Brentwood Home pillows to help my sleep issues.

I try not to drink any caffeine 2 hours before I go to bed. I also use a lavender spray on my bedding. Both seem to help me get a good night’s sleep.

I have a hard time getting a good night’s sleep; I fall asleep okay, but wake up several times during the course of the night. I find that if the room is dark and quiet, though, I’m a lot more likely to be able to get right back to sleep. Now you’ve got me wondering if some good pillows might help in my quest for sleep…

I know you need a good pillow and mattress to sleep on to sleep well. Also, if you get tired during the day, do not take naps. Yes, You get more energy for the time being, but then you are not as tired at night when you need to sleep.

I often take a shower before I go to bed, for some reason just standing in the shower like rain falling on me, just relaxing to me.

One tip would be to stop using electronic devices about 30 minutes before bedtime. Another would be to turn off the television and be consistent with bedtime.

I don’t have any tips to-date as I have not had a good night’s sleep in over 11 years even with the help of the doctors. One thing I do recommend is making sure you have the proper mattress and pillows.
