Last month, my kids and I participated in a mini donation drive for our local church. While our drive was just concentrated on receiving donations from my sons football team, we received a lot of much needed back to school supplies and a few food items. When we dropped off the items that we had received, you couldn’t believe how excited they were because there was a true need in the community for even the basic of supplies. Even though you may not see it, the need is there.
Walmart Foundation has recently launched “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.”, a nationwide campaign calling on the public to get involved in the fight against hunger. The campaign will provide $3.7 million in grants to participating Feeding America food banks and local partner agencies that provide hunger relief to millions of people in need of food assistance.
What Can You Do?
Now through October 5, you can visit www.walmart.com/fighthunger to cast one vote per day that will help direct grants to participating Feeding America food banks and local partner agencies across the country. The 50 winning food banks will each receive a $60,000 grant.
This campaign also provides information on how you can donate or volunteer to take a direct action in the fight against hunger in their local communities. Each month both of my son’s schools have collection donation drives, sometimes they receive out of uniform passes and other times they have a collection set up at school events. This is an easy way for a whole school to get involved!
