Yarn Wreath
Materials:
- Styrofoam balls in 2 different sizes
- Styrofoam wreath form
- Colored yarn, reds and greens look great
- Hot glue gun
Directions:
This simple craft is a perfectly chic update on the traditional holiday decoration. Wrap the Styrofoam wreath form and Styrofoam balls with colorful yarn. Glue the end of the yarn to the Styrofoam once the object is fully wrapped. Use the hot glue gun to attach the balls onto the wreath form—the more random the placement, the better. Spray the final work with a protective finish if you’ll be hanging the wreath outdoors.
Pinecone Ornament
Materials:
- Pinecones, fresh or store bought
- Glitter paint
- Paintbrushes or foam sponge brushes
- Ribbon
- Hot glue gun
Directions:
Send the kids out to collect pinecones to decorate. Set up a craft table with glitter glue and paint brushes and have the kids paint their treasures—be sure to cover the table in newspaper! Let the pinecones dry, and then tie a ribbon around the top of the pinecone to hang from the Christmas tree. To ensure that the ribbon isn’t going anywhere, add a drop of hot glue between the ribbon and the pinecone.
Candy Garland
Materials:
- Candies in colorful wrapping
- Hot glue gun
- Push pins
Directions:
If you’re tired of the traditional popcorn and evergreen garlands, give this sweet decoration a try! This colorful garland is simple to make so feel free to get the kids involved. Glue the ends of the candy wrappers together, one after another. Have the kids use candy of the same color for a monochromatic look or mix and match for a fun twist. If you’re going to be hanging the garland in a dipping pattern, be sure that the garland doubles the length of surface you’ll be draping. Secure to the mantel with pushpins or drape on the tree for delicious looking décor!
